5 Tips to Decrease Pain Naturally
Not only is pain uncomfortable, it is exhausting. Pain killers may help, but they often have toxic side effects and don’t treat the underlying cause. Chronic pain is common in many health conditions: migraines, menstrual cramps, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and tendonitis. These conditions are not caused by a lack of pain killers, they are caused by too much inflammation. They key is to decrease the inflammation. Here are 5 tips to naturally decrease your chronic pain:
1. Try a gluten and dairy free diet for 1 month
Gluten and dairy commonly increase pain. Wheat, spelt, oats, rye and barley contain gluten. Dairy includes milk, cheese and cream. Many times, elimination of these foods decreases or stops chronic pain.
2. Reduce sugar
Sugar irritates the nerves and tissues. Try taking out refined sugars for 1 month. Refined sugars are commonly found in candy, soda, and baked goods. Stevia is a safe substitute when you’re craving sweets.
3. Sleep more
Lack of sleep can cause increased pain. Most people need 8-9 hours of sleep per night. If you need help falling asleep, magnesium citrate is a gentle, non-addictive sleep aid. Take at bedtime.
3. Take turmeric and fish oil
I recommend Meriva by Thorne, 1 cap 2 times per day. This is a highly absorbable form of turmeric. Nordic Naturals ProOmega, 2 caps per day, is an excellent fish oil.
4. Do something you love
Stress relief is an excellent way to decrease pain. Spend time with loved ones. Spend time in nature, listening to music, or creating art.
